Biography
“Before becoming an entertainment lawyer, I worked as an actor, writer, director and stand-up comedian. This hands-on industry experience gives me insight and know-how that most lawyers just don’t have or haven’t had access to. I can effectively represent people in the entertainment industry because I know what they are looking for. I understand what they live and breathe every day.”
After realizing that his real passion was entertainment law, Larry, who also holds a B.A. in Theater, went on to earn his law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1991 and has been earning a reputation as a top Los Angeles entertainment attorney ever since. After law school, Larry spent nine years working for and learning from his mentors — top publishing and intellectual property attorney, author and columnist Jonathan Kirsch and top litigator Dennis Mitchell — before going out on his own.
Ready to fly on his own as a top Los Angeles entertainment lawyer, Larry launched the Law Office of Larry Zerner in 2000 with a goal to effectively represent clients in a very personal way.
Larry is a regular contributor to the Writers Store e-zine and many of his articles were included in Final Draft Presents Ask The Pros: Screenwriting - 101 Questions Answered by Industry Professionals, a compendium of articles answering questions most often asked by screenwriters.
Larry is a regular speaker on legal issues at entertainment conferences such as Creative Screenwriter Expo, Final Draft’s Screenwriter Showcase and Belma Johnson’s Dreamnet Workshop. Most recently, Larry was interviewed by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) Today Show on legal issues relating to the 2007-2008 writers’ strike.
